I was 12 years old when I joined my first campaign. Now Congressman Michael Capuano was elected ‘Mayor Mike’ of Somerville, Massachusetts.

Since then I’ve worked on countless local aldermanic elections in my hometown of Somerville, just 3 miles north of Downtown Boston, including that of the current mayor Joe Curtatone.

In only my freshman year of high school I was named A&E editor of our award-winning newspaper ‘The Mustang News’ for the following year, but was forced to move out of the school district shortly after. On my next school paper I served as Opinion Editor and Senior Editor, even publishing some special editions single-handedly.

From there I went on to work for environmental activist John O’Connor in a failed bid for the vacant seat left by Joseph Kennedy in MA CD-8. Ironically, Capuano won the seat and still holds it today.

When the dust from that race settled, I was given my first more high-profile assignment with Dorothy Kelly Gay’s attempt to capture the Lt. Governor position. She lost that election, but went on to become… you guessed it… Mayor of Somerville!

After being frustrated with the internal politics of working for family friends, I decided to move to southern New Hampshire and start anew. I was heavily involved with John Kerry’s campaign in that state as well as that of the current governor John Lynch. In these campaigns, I used my considerable experience to act as a sort of clean-up agent, putting out small fires where others had overlooked important details or failed in their tasks and gained a reputation as someone who could always get the job done when others could not. You could say I’m a jill-of-all-trades and even a master of a few.

I moved to Anaheim, CA in 2005 against my better judgment. I spent the 2006 midterm elections working with the Young Democrats of America in their peer-to-peer program.

Just recently I was named Communications Director of Ed Chau for Congress in CD-42. Considering I also have a background in small business, journalism, PR, debate, and entertainment, I had truly hoped to be a good fit for the campaign but alas I guess I wasn’t, and the far left, fearing a moderate voice, forced me to resign.  I am currently administering this blog and ‘The Centrist OC,’ as well as blogging on ‘The Orange Juice.’

I just read your post about quitting Ed Chau’s campaign and I think you got a raw deal. I like your writing and while I’m new to these blogs (blame Vern he invited me) and not as knowlegeable about all OC issues as you are (sleepy HB) I do have a perspective and opinions and a sense of humor that (the latter) seems badly needed on these blogs. Forgive my reference to your first two names by refering to you as Buffy but your agressive, suffer-no-fools approach makes that nom de plume seem appropriate. Keep up the good fight and I’ll try to make it to Drinking Liberally one of these days and hopefully not get run off or stabbed through the chest with a woden stake.
